.Report of Our Valentine Visits

Title: Humanitarian visits

Venues: General Hospital Female Ward and Citadel Of Grace Orphanage home, both in Igando / Ikotun LCDA under Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria.

Date of Event:  February 14, 2017

From our past reports, it’s obvious that our first programme for each year usually falls on February 14th, being the day our Foundation had set aside to reach out to some special people on humanitarian manner. Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women observed this special day on February 14, 2017 by visiting an orphanage home and a government owned hospital’s female ward. Both places were situated in Igandu/ Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of  Lagos State.

The names of the special places visited with gift items on the special day were Citadel Of Grace Orphanage Home and Igando General Hospital’s Female Ward. The Foundation’s team spent time with the children in the home, had discussions with them and gave them gift support. It was an amazing experience with the children in the orphanage home who actually taught us how to use speech accent in English Language.

In similar manner, we spent some time with the female patients in the Female Hospital Ward, showing them as much care and love as we could and we gave them  gifts as well. The patients in the ward were really grateful. However, the most exciting experience was when few nurses on duty showed much interest in joining our team. They said what they saw us doing was amazing and needful. Last year humanitarian day was real fun to us!

Title: Train Women Train Nations

Venues: Itsitu and Oboye Communities, suburbs of Lagos State, Nigeria.

Date of Event:  July 6, and July11, 2017

Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women in collaboration with African Family Support Foundation organised an empowerment programme for needy women and widows at a local community levels in Lagos, Nigeria. The programme took place at Itsitu one of Lagos suburbs area on July 6, 2017. The programme was meant to equip women who lack some business skill with some skills that would help them run their businesses effectively. Such skills include banking skill, production skill and marketing skill. Some women who desired to start small trading businesses but lacked finance were also supported financially.

We have been following them up through phone calls and face to face meetings, mentoring and the outcome is very encouraging. Initially, a few of them had an operational bank account but with the empowerment supports, most of those that benefited from us financially have their personal accounts opened and to others, their accounts were updated. Some of them have thanked our organisation for leading them through this noble part. Some of them who couldn’t save before confessed that they can now save money in their accounts although they are still faced with challenges of saving for too long.

On July 11, 2017 Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and Women in collaboration with African Family Support Foundation repeated the same Empowerment Programme at Oboye Community, a Lagos suburb, for continuation and also to reach out to other women in a different local community.

The same process repeated itself but we have not funded the prospective small trading business women who showed interest in this local community. Considering the number of women in need, we are supporting them in batches so that we can be more effective in mentoring them. The third batch and financial recipients are basically part of the leaders that would lead in the groups . They would receive their funding very soon. Over 100 women were equipped in their areas of needs as relating to the programme objectives in the two programmes.

Title: International Day of Girls

Venues: Girls Remand Home Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Date of Event:  October 11, 2017

The International Day Of Girls is a day set aside annually to celebrate girl children all over the world and the day is usually marked on October 11th. In our way of being creative in our activities targeted towards helping her maximise her potentials, we changed our celebration style in 2017. Her day was not celebrated in a rented hall as we usually do, rather we identified with girls at Girls Remand Home Idi-Araba, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. Leadership Foundation for African Girl Child and women realised that they have always celebrated the Girls Day without considering girls in Remand Homes. That’s why we took this year’s event to them. Other female students from schools such as Ronik International School Ejigbo, Baptist Model High School Ijegun, Binta International School,  Ajao Estate and Cedar International School Surulere were in attendance.

There were paper presentations, poems and drama performances from the students of the listed schools. There were series of activities performances and the girls in the home took active part especially song ministration and dance. About 300 people were in attendance and over 200 girls were in attendance. Our Young Special Mum and Special Dad were there and made their presentations as well. Dr Somefun of UNFPA represented her organisation and presented paper on health. Our Foundation decorated the leadership of the home for the excellent work they are doing in the home by transforming the lives of the girls in the home. The children were happy and they asked us to come again.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We were able to offer a tuition scholarship to a girl less than ten years of age. Depending on her performance at school, we might sponsor her up to tertiary educational level because of her gender issue. Her scholarship bill is being paid by one of the BOT members of our Foundation. This had been running for about a year.
